THE HANOUN MEDICAL MULTI-CERVICAL UNIT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO
IDENTIFY, TREAT AND DOCUMENT PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT OF THE CERVICAL SPINE.
The
Hanoun Medical, Inc. Multi-Cervical Unit (MCU) is the most comprehensive cervical
spine evaluation and rehabilitation system available in the world. The Multi-Cervical
is a digitally interfaced system that allows for the real-time recording of
cervical spine movement and isometric strength in more than 1,000 unique positions.
The system also features a dynamic strengthening program for cervical spine
conditions. A significant need exists for effective and reliable evaluation
and treatment of cervical injuries. Traditional treatment programs have relied
upon rest, medication and manipulation practices; however, the results have
been limited, as an emphasis was not placed upon the functional restoration
of the neck.
The Multi-Cervical enables the clinician to evaluate and restore strength and
function of the cervical spine. The system has been used with remarkable success
and has been featured on television news programs across the United States,
Canada, and Australia.
The patient population includes individuals seeking treatment for whiplash-associated
disorders, muscle-tension headaches, general neck pain and upper extremity related
conditions involving cervical disc compression. According to the continuing
outcome studies being conducted, over 75% of the patients treated on the Multi-Cervical
have responded positively and demonstrated progress toward full recovery. Strength
gains averaged 105%, and over 98% of functional gains were maintained six months
after treatment.
Cervical spine evaluations, and the associated rehabilitation programs, provided
to patients sustaining motor vehicle, workers compensation and sports-related
injuries, as well as conditioning and wellness programs represent another major
revenue source for the evalNET® centers using the Multi-Cervical System.
Recently, a facility located in the Southeast region of the United States promoted
the whiplash evaluation and treatment program and received 18 referrals within
the first week of commencing the provision of the service.
The unique capabilities of the technology and the rehabilitation benefits to
the patients have been featured on many local television newscasts. This result
can be replicated for your facility as a Hanoun Medical client and a member
of the evalNET® provider network.
What is the Hanoun Multi-Cervical Unit?
The Multi-Cervical Unit is the most comprehensive cervical evaluation and rehabilitation
system available in the world. It provides for the assessment of range of motion
(flexion, extension, rotation, lateral flexion) with range limiters where applicable,
isometric strength (570 different positions), and dynamic strengthening with
weight ranges from one-quarter of a pound to 50 pounds.
What are the advantages over similar equipment?
The Multi-Cervical Unit provides the evaluation and/or rehabilitation professional
with custom capabilities to assess strength and range of motion. It also allows
for the combination of movement patterns (or i.e., 20 degrees of rotation while
performing cervical flexion activities). Furthermore, as the system's software
is written in a Windows-format, the ability to design custom reports, as well
as to use the menu of standardized report formats, greatly enhances the Multi-Cervical
Unit's utility to the professional evaluator.
What is the difference between a standard and a Multi-Cervical Unit
assessment?
The MCU provides the evaluator with the most accurate measurement tools for
range of motion. The system measures range of motion in all planes to one-tenth
of a degree. It also provides real-time measurement of the movement pattern
in order to document the reproducible evidence of effort variance over the course
of time (e.g., slow v. fast movement patterns, “hitching” movement
patterns, etc.). Strength measurements are provided on a real-time basis and
are measured in one-tenth pound increments. Traditional strength measurements
of the cervical spine are conducted using manual muscle scale (5-point grading)
and do not allow for subsequent comparison of results. To summarize, the Multi-Cervical
Unit enables the clinician to conduct a highly accurate, objective evaluation.
How does the Multi-Cervical Unit enhance the traditional therapist’s
or chiropractor's method?
The MCU is a restorative, as opposed to manipulative, approach to the treatment
of cervical spine injuries. The MCU and its rehabilitation program are designed
to increase cervical range of motion and strength, while providing the practitioner
with the documentation to track progress and make the necessary modifications
to the treatment program. In laymen's terms, it is an assessment and rehabilitation
program for the neck that may or may not be used in conjunction with manipulative
approaches to treatment.
Are there any success stories / testimonials supporting the Multi-Cervical
Unit and treatment protocols?
The MCU has been featured on many different television programs highlighting
the remarkable outcomes achieved due to the protocols and programs associated
with the Unit. The MCU can be and has been included within the treatment plan
in workers' compensation, non-motor vehicle personal injury cases, motor vehicle
and sports injury situations.
How reliable is the Multi-Cervical Unit?
The MCU is an extremely reliable testing system. Both from the standpoint of
university-based reliability studies and the accuracy of the data collected.
The calibration and verification features of the system ensure accuracy and
reliability, contributing to the legal defensibility of the treatment and performance
data collected.
What is the latest research on the Multi-Cervical Unit?
The Multi-Cervical Unit is currently involved in studies through Latrobe University
in Melbourne, Australia; Washington University at St. Louis, School of Medicine,
Program on Physical Therapy, St. Louis, Missouri, and the United States Army.
Independent studies are also being conducted by users of the MCU in conjunction
with specific impairment populations.
How long does it take to complete an evaluation?
Evaluations range from 15 minutes to 1 hour (over the course of one or two days).
The nature of the evaluation is the primary determinant as to the length of
testing time spent testing. The report-writing aspect of the Multi-Cervical
Unit takes 10 to 15 minutes, and the preparation of graphs and charts are automatically
formatted into the program.
How long does it take for a treatment?
Treatment sessions generally range from 15 to 45 minutes in duration. Treatment
frequency is usually 3 times per week for a period of 6 weeks. The treatment
program is based upon the severity of the injury and progress in treatment
