Phase III: Support of Muscular System

Regular and consistent home-based exercise is one of the keys to long-term relief. We have found through experience the simple home-based exercises we prescribe are most effective. Introduction to the low tech movement exercises you can do to speed the healing process are one of the most important parts of the DTS Therapy System.

Phase III care provides an additional, structured program fostering continued relief for those still in pain and promotes a wellness lifestyle for those having gained appreciable relief to this point. Our hope is for you to continue a dedication to daily core exercises, simple resistance exercises and aerobic conditioning. Phase III procedures include structured in-office resistance training, continued Stabilizer use at-home and maintenance or supportive Chiropractic and DTS Therapy treatments. Keep in
mind spinal discs can have a 300- day healing cycle. With complicating
factors such as arthritis, poor fitness and daily stressors it's no wonder back pain can be an on going problem for so many! And even though the pain may be reduced or eliminated a reoccurrence is certainly possible so keep in mind that lifestyle changes may be necessary to eliminate the stresses that
cause the problem.

Phase III Activities

  • In-office resistance training to gain strength of the back and spinal muscles. This may include a 45-degree roman chair and back extension exercises.
  • At-home StabilizerTM exerciser to maintain proper co-contraction strategies.
  • Additional balance "core" training and sport specific exercises as needed (Swiss ball, wobble boards etc).
  • At home resistance training with resistance bands, ankle/hand weights, dumbbells etc.
  • Continued "floor core' exercises 5-7 times per week.
  • Some form of aerobic conditioning. Treadmills, bikes etc or simply walking/dancing around a room for 10-20 minutes each day.

Since the discs have no direct blood supply, their optimum nutrition is dependant on overall aerobic fitness, oxygen and blood flow. The back and discs can only be as healthy as the rest of your body. We hope this information is helpful in explaining the comprehensive plan we have outlined. It is this multifaceted approach utilizing DTS Spinal Decompression TherapyTM and exercises that has proven highly successful in spinal disc rehabilitation.

Our desire is to help you return to the lifestyle you've been missing due to your pain and disability.

If you have any questions about your treatment program, please feel free to bring them to the attention of our staff.

The extent of these exercises will be largely determined on your overall spinal health, your current level of litness as well as other factors. Our goal is to introduce you to vari0us simple but effective exercises you will learn during your office visits. Once we are satisfied with your results and outcomes, our staff will establish a home based exercise program that is simple yet effective.
