Kids and Chiropractic Care
As an adult, you are probably well aware of the benefits of chiropractic for maintaining your own health and wellness. But did you realize that kids can benefit from regular chiropractic care, too? Healthy children with no obvious problems may nevertheless experience spinal subluxations that can, over time, impact functioning. Chiropractic care can help restore children to healthy functioning, so they can enjoy optimal nervous system function and health throughout their lives.
Multiple studies have confirmed that chiropractic care is safe for kids of all ages. Many parents even bring their newborn babies to see their family chiropractor on the way home from the hospital! When adjusting infants, our chiropractors use a gentle touch. The amount of manual pressure applied to adjust a baby's spine is about the same as the amount of pressure you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato in the produce section. Kids are never too young to benefit from chiropractic care. We recommend that children begin receiving regular wellness visits as soon as possible, with the first visit occurring in the initial month of life, if possible. Kids should receive wellness visits every three months for the first year thereafter, and every six to 12 months throughout childhood and adolescence, with additional visits as needed.
Of course, if your child has passed his or her infant years, he or she can still benefit from regular chiropractic care. Kids may not have yet had the opportunity to put their young bodies through the decades of abuse that cause chronic pain and discomfort for their parents, but that does not mean their rowdy games cannot lead to spinal subluxations and imbalances in their skeletal structure. Bring your child in to Lifetime Health and Wellness for a chiropractic consultation if you notice any of the following symptoms:
It is a good idea to seek out wellness care for your child at milestone times, such as when he or she learns to crawl or walk. If your child suffers a fall or other trauma, chiropractic care can help protect him or her against the possibility of long-term complications as a result.
Chiropractic care can also help your child cope with specific conditions. For example, many parents find that chiropractic care can help children who suffer from frequent ear infections recover without the need for surgery. Chiropractic manipulation of the occiput in the back of the skull and the topmost spinal vertebra can stimulate drainage of fluid from the ear canals, bringing children relief from acute and chronic earaches.
